Appointed in November 2022 under the government of Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada, his role places him at the heart of fiscal policy, international financial relations, and the pursuit of sustainable development for the island nation.
His first major ministerial appointment came in 2010 when he was named Minister of Public Works, Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and Environment under the government of President Patrice Trovoada.
Instead, he remained a central figure within the ADI, which won parliamentary elections in 2014, bringing his party colleague, Patrice Trovoada, to the Prime Minister's office.
He was re-elected in 2006, defeating former ally Patrice Trovoada, which affirmed public support for his leadership direction.
His son, Patrice Trovoada, followed in his footsteps, becoming a dominant political force and serving multiple terms as Prime Minister of Sao Tome and Principe, creating a unique political dynasty.
